A pump that moves 1000 gallons an hour with no restrictions may only circulate 5 - 600 gallons an hour after pumping up 3 feet to a filter box. Submersible pond pumps offer a high degree of versatility and are easy to install and use in small Goldfish ponds up to large Koi ponds. Please read the individual pump descriptions for information on selecting the correct pump for your pond. In general, we recommend choosing a model with a water flow slightly larger than needed. This allows for the reduction in flow with the build up of debris and lime scale that usually occurs after a period of use in the pond.
For larger Koi ponds it is worth considering external pond pumps.
These are widely used for Koi ponds and other applications that require large water flows. Our selection of external pond pumps is available in a range of sizes to suit most Koi ponds. The Dolphin pumps range offer excellent quality and the high flow rate needed for specialist Koi ponds. We also carry the low wattage Sequence pond pumps. The Sequence pumps have low running costs but please note the pressure produced may be lower than higher wattage pumps. External pumps need to be housed in a dry, well ventilated site and may have too large a flow rate for smaller fish ponds.
